The newest food truck park has finally opened in Wichita. The truck stop is the largest park of its type in the city. Property of Willie Finley of Willie’s Wingsthe park is located at 6315 E. Kellogg Dr., on the southwest corner of Kellogg and Woodlawn.
The best way to get to the Truck Stop if driving on Kellogg is to take the Woodlawn exit eastbound and take the frontage road to Woodlawn. The Truck Stop is just past Reddi Industries and immediately west of Starlight Motor Lodge Motel with Woodlawn Blvd.
Here you will find a huge lot with room for at least 13 food trucks, ample parking and tables for dinner parties. One thing to note about this park compared to others is that it is open seven days a week from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Finley’s goal is to always have multiple food trucks parked. By following their Facebook pageyou will be able to see who is there every day.
During the opening week there was fantastic weather and four trucks.
There was a decent crowd for lunch, many from nearby businesses like Reddi Industries and parking lots. It was cool to see another park being built that is fairly accessible to most people in the area. Even people working downtown should be able to get there and back in a good amount of time.
As mentioned earlier, Finley’s goal is to have consistency in the park. Diners will know what to expect each week (and weekend) as food trucks will be listed for the entire week or weekend. The idea is that food truck owners can register and reserve their spots in the park and gain access to power ports depending on the package they purchase.
For the month of March, Finley is waiving the monthly fee to allow truck owners to try out the fleet. Interested owners are encouraged to call 316-730-5659.
I look forward to warmer weather and to seeing how The Truck Stop evolves and grows. My wish is to see events, music (neighborhood permitting), and a more family-friendly theme with things for kids to do while preparing food. I know new trucks will be opening in the coming months, so this might be a good space for them to get noticed.
